Community Safety Information
Keeping our local community informed of what to do in the unlikely event of an incident at our plant is important.
Keeping our local community informed of what to do in the unlikely event of a major incident at our plant is important. As part of our safety responsibilities, we have to carry out:
- Safety assessments: identifying all potential hazards that could cause a major incident
- Safety management: Having systems in place to mitigate the risk of a major incident
- Emergency response plan: Having plans in place for the worst case scenarios
We have prepared procedures in the event of a major incident. We have:
- Automated fire suppression system on site.
- Emergency response plans in place with emergency services.
Our deluge water tank holds sufficient water for emergency preparedness.
In an unlikely event of a major incident occurring, the local community within 1km radius will be notified by an automated text message containing relevant information about the incident.
We also work with our local emergency services and authorities to keep our neighbors and the wider community informed and safe through a range of other communication channels.
The plant has staff present on-site 24 hours a day/7 days a week - and other security measures are in place to ensure safe operations at all times.
If you see any black smoke coming from our plant, hear any suspicious explosive noises, or are notified of an incident, follow these steps:
- Avoid: Stay away from the plant, to allow emergency services to attend. Avoid smoke by staying out of smoke path and close windows/doors.
- Listen: Listen instructions from Evonik, local authorities or emergency services via local radio and text message.
